The Dynamics of Job Enthusiasm in Indonesian Hotel Industry: Unraveling the Impact of the Pre-Cursor Factors

Abstract

Purpose: This research paper examines the influence of performance management, talent development on job satisfaction and the moderating effect of rewards and recognition and social support toward hotel employee's enthusiasm. Design/methodology/approach: Quantitative data was collected through a survey to gather the feedback from 362 employees from various departments of twenty-four rating hotels in West Sumatra, Indonesia. The study employs Partial-least Square-Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) in response to the hypotheses. Findings: The results clearly demonstrated that performance management and talent development have a significant influence on hotel employees' job enthusiasm. Performance management and talent development also positively influence job satisfaction and subsequently increase hotel employee job enthusiasm. In addition, job satisfaction that determines the hotel employee's enthusiasm is ascendingly heightened by reward and recognition and social support. Research limitations/implications: These findings provide valuable insights and far-reaching consequences and create a promising need for other four-star hotel rating to invest in comprehensive performance management and talent development strategies to enhance employees' work experiences, engagement, and job enthusiasm in turn determining hotel employee's retention. Originality/value: The originality of this research lies in its investigation of the interplay between performance management, talent management, job satisfaction, reward and recognition, social support thus, adds value both academic field and industry practices by offering empirical insights specific to the hotel industry, thereby providing a foundation for improving employee enthusiasm in similar contexts. © The Author(s).
