Introduction: this study aims to develop a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) framework integrated with Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to enhance the critical thinking skills of students in the Mechanical Engineering Study Program at Padang State University (UNP). Method: a developmental research methodology based on the ADDIE framework was implemented in this study. The subjects involved were students enrolled in the Mechanical Engineering Department at UNP. Results: validation results from seven experts indicated that the developed product falls into the valid category. In addition, the practicality test involving two lecturers and ten students yielded a score of 80,99 %, placing it in the “highly practical” category. Regarding effectiveness, the t-test produced a value of 0,000, which is less than 0,05, indicating a statistically significant difference between the experimental and control groups. Conclusion: based on the findings from the validation, practicality, and effectiveness assessments, the AI-supported PBL model is considered valid, highly practical, and effective in enhancing the critical thinking abilities of Mechanical Engineering students at UNP. © 2025; Los autores.
