Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the level of erosion hazard, conservation forms, and conservation measures in the Air Dingin watershed of the upstream part in Koto Tangah Sub-district, Padang City, Indonesia. The research methods used to determine the level of erosion hazard are based on the universal soil loss equation (USLE) formula using a geographic information system (GIS) application, and the conservation measures refer to the modification of Kumajas (1992) and Morgan (1998). The results have shown the level of erosion hazard in the different regions having very light erosion in land units V2.IV.QTau.Ht.And with soil loss of 4.73 tons/ha/year and V2.IV.QTau.Ht.Lat with soil loss 1.20 tons/ha/year. Mild erosion in land units V2.III.QTt.Ht.Lat with soil loss of 1.24 tons/ha/year and V1.II.Qal.Sw.Lat with soil loss of 42.66 tons/ha/year .Moderate erosion in land unit V2.II.QTau.Kc.Lat with soil loss of 181.64 tons/ha/year. Heavy erosion in land unit V2.III.QTau.Lat.Sbl with soil loss of 74.91 tons/ha/year. Furthermore the conservation forms and conservation measures at land use of forests (protected forest/nature reserves) in the form of is left in a natural state; at land use of shrubs (limited management) in the form of plant strips with bench terraces, cultivation with human power; and at land use of mixed gardens and paddy fields (limited management) in the form of bench terraces with crop rotation, use of mulch, terraces based on land width. © 2026 by Apple Academic Press, Inc.
