The Effect of Aerobic Exercise on Reducing Blood Glucose Levels in Diabetics: An Experimental Study

Abstract

Background. DM is one of the chronic diseases that people of all ages and genders can suffer. Most people with type 2 diabetes are obese. Aerobic exercise is one of the therapies used in the treatment of diabetes. Objectives. To find out the effect of aerobic gymnastics on reducing blood glucose levels. Methods. This study used a quasi-experimental design with pre and post-design, where the treatment group was divided into two groups, namely the control group and the experimental group, with eight treatments given within one month. The population in this study is 30 people. And the research sample with saturated sampling. The research procedure is done by taking an initial test, then giving a gymnastics treatment, and then taking a final test. The data in this study was analyzed using the t-test. Results. After the eighth session, the average blood glucose levels of the test group were lower than in the control group. However, the difference was not statistically significant. Conclusion. Aerobic exercise for 1 hour twice a week can significantly reduce blood glucose levels in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus. © 2025, Society of Aging and Physical Activity (SAPA).
