A study of outdoor based instruction on environmental education for prospective teachers was carried out to encourage them to improve their environmental literacy in taking care school environment. Data was collected using essay test, performance assessment, questionnaire on their affective aspects. Concept was identified related to coverage area of environmental education in elementary school such as pollution (water, soil, air, and energy safety). Outdoor based instruction model (with stressing on exploration, explanation, application) was implemented in one elementary school teachers’ college in Bandung. It was found that: (1) the improvement of concept mastery in environmental education was better than regular class, (2) the performance and attitude of prospective teachers at elementary school was in good category, (3) their ability in implementing outdoor based instruction was in good category, (4) their attitude in taking care of school environment was in very good category. So outdoor based instruction on environmental education is effective in improving prospective teachers’ ability in planning, implementing, and evaluating, as well as in inculcating attitude and behavior on taking care towards their environment. © 2024 American Institute of Physics Inc..
