This research is motivated by the widespread use of social media as a communication tool to inform the public about various issues. This applies to all levels of society, and certainly not least to public figures, in this case, female members of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI). This paper discusses the linguistic politeness of female DPR RI members used in communicating through various social media. The results show that, in general, female DPR RI members are polite in performing speech acts when communicating using social media. The strategic employment of politeness maxims is evident in an analysis of their public discourse. These maxims are used to construct a favorable image, shape public opinion, and foster social connections. Maxims like tact, friendliness, modesty, and politeness are commonly deployed to mitigate negative stereotypes of women in politics. Nevertheless, in the competitive realm of politics, maxims such as tact and agreement are often given precedence to bolster credibility. © 2024, Lulu Press Inc. All rights reserved.
