Abstract

Rain detection radar, known as the Spatial Rain Detection System (SANTANU), is developing the ship's X-band radar technology. X-band operates at a frequency of 9.4 GHz. SANTANU has an antenna and pedestal weighing 22 kg, which causes reduced efficiency in use. Therefore, a low-profile and lightweight microstrip antenna was developed for rain radar applications. This research was conducted to determine the characteristics of the microstrip antenna that could meet the criteria for the SANTANU rain radar. This research includes engineering research, which applies science in the form of tool design. The antenna design is a single patch with an H-slot added. The simulated and measured return loss bandwidths are 380 MHz and 320 MHz, respectively.
