This research was conducted at the upstream and downstream of the Sandaran, Kungkilan, and Lematang rivers in Lahat Regency, South Sumatra Province. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the water quality by comparing the diversity of plankton to environmental physical and chemical factors. The survey method used in this research is The research location was determined by a purposive sampling method, namely the method of collecting data for certain reasons and considerations deliberately to obtain a representative sample of the sampling area. For the technique of taking plankton in this study, we are using a sample research method. Sampling is defined by taking data only on part of the population, which is later expected to describe the nature of the population of the research object. Sampling of plankton was carried out using an active sampling method with a plankton net. The types of plankton found were phytoplankton and zooplankton. The family of Phytoplankton consists of Cyanophyceae, Bacillariophyceae, Chlorophyceae, and Euglenophyceae, while the family of zooplankton consists of Branchipods, Nematodes, Rhyzopods, Rotifers, Ostracoda, and Copepods. The rivers with the best quality compared to other rivers are the upstream Kungkilan and Sandaran rivers, with diversity index results of 1.4 and 1.3. The most correlated parameters to the plankton diversity index were TSS, Mn, Zn, NH3-N, and TDS. © 2024 American Institute of Physics Inc.. All rights reserved.
