Nowadays the cement demand is increasing along with public demand in building infrastructure, but there are several things that the people has not realized about the composition of cement besides its resilience and sturdiness which is related to the public health, one of which is the antibacterial properties needed in cement. This study evaluates the antibacterial properties of the cement used is Portland Cement, with Escherichia coli bacteria as the evaluating bacteria, the evaluation of bacteria is carried out by the TPC method, namely Total Plate Count, the evaluation is carried out with variations of ZnO in Portland Cement is 0%, 1%, 3% and 5% where the evaluation comes from the active ROS in ZnO, to be able to review the active performance of ROS can be done with the help of UV light and without of UV light. Besides that, characterization was carried out using XRD which aims to determine the nanoparticle size of ZnO and the type of crystal formed, besides that, morphological analysis characterization was also carried out with SEM to see the shape of the ZnO structure embedded in Portland Cement, SEM characterization was carried out with magnifications of 1000x, 2.500x, 5,000x and 10,000x magnification. © 2024 American Institute of Physics Inc..
