Oil losses and broken nut are crucial parameters in oil extraction. Thus, this study aims to analyse effect of oil losses and broken nuts in palm oil industry. It was carried out through a series of experiments using a screw press-type worm under different operational conditions-a power rate of ±19 kWh and shaft rotation of ± 9 rpm. Oil loss was evaluated by measuring the amount of oil remaining in the beans after pressing. Meanwhile, the broken nut is analyzed by checking the physical condition and integrity of the nut after some operational cycles. Results show that the oil loss rate tends to increase with increasing rotational speed and higher pressing pressure. On the other hand, nut rupture mainly occurs under extreme pressure conditions. Optimum condition could be achieved at oil loss of 3.92% and broken nut of 3.88%. This paper provides valuable insights for the edible oil industry in improving operational efficiency and product quality through a better understanding of the factors that influence screw press performance. These steps can lead to increase productivity and sustainability in the vegetable oil pressing industry. © 2024 IEEE.
