The preliminary study's findings indicate that learning mathematics, particularly sequences and series, is still influenced by the teaching materials used. Meanwhile, the presentation of learning materials in available textbooks generally begins with definitions and progresses to the formula for sequences and series, encouraging teachers to directly teach mathematics formally. This does not help students learn, especially when it comes to understanding the concepts of sequences and series, and especially when it comes to determining number patterns. As a result, a learning design based on Realistic Mathematics Education was created for the topic of sequences and series. incorporated into the student activity sheet. The development of this learning design is still limited to one-on-one evaluations aimed at soliciting suggestions from product users, namely a teacher and three students, and providing an assessment of the designed product. A Plomp research design was used in the study. The research phase is divided into three stages: initial investigation, development or prototyping, and assessment. Students from class VIII at MTsN Padang Panjang participated in the study. The data analysis technique used is a descriptive technique that describes the results of one-on-one evaluation via student activity sheets based on RME. Field notes and documentation were used to collect data. Students understood the hypothetical learning trajectory for the topic of sequences and series using the RME approach via student activity sheets, according to the results. Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) based learning design on the topic of sequences and series, in particular, determining the number pattern of the given contextual problem and slowly able to build students' understanding of number patterns and can find patterns number of a number with the help of the teacher in the form of probing questions/scaffolding to students in solving problems. © 2023 American Institute of Physics Inc..
