The preparation of activated carbon from oil palm frond waste using a microwave as a physical activator has been performed successfully. The carbonization was done at a temperature of 250°C for 90 minutes. The activation with microwave (300 Watt) for 5 minutes irradiation time increased the iodine number from 330 mg/g to 880 mg/g and was following SNI No.06-3730-1995 for activated carbon. FTIR spectrum shows that the activated carbon of oil palm frond has surface functional groups of O-H, C-O. The activated carbon produced had an optimum absorption capacity for Rhodamine B of 9.67 mg/g at a concentration of 400 mg/L. © 2023 Author(s).
