There are still many people in Indonesia who do not know about the traditions in their area, especially in Minangkabau, which is rich in traditions; traditional Minangkabau musical instruments mostly accompany many practices in Minangkabau. This research aims to design an application for introducing traditional Minangkabau musical instruments based on augmented reality, introducing 12 Minangkabau conventional musical instruments to young people from the Minangkabau area or other areas. The user himself can play musical instruments in this application. So that users can interact directly with objects in this application, this application is designed using the Development Life Cycle Method (MDLC). Augmented Reality This traditional musical instrument is based on Android and Unity as software for creating this application, Blender 3D as software for designing 3D objects for conventional musical instruments. The text editor used in this application is Visual Studio Code in the Java language. Creating markers from this application is Paintool Sai. This study resulted in an augmented reality-based introduction to Minangkabau traditional musical instruments with 12 3D objects of conventional musical instruments that can make users interact directly with these musical instruments, such as users being able to listen to explanations about traditional Minangkabau musical instruments, Videos professional playing Minangkabau musical instruments, and users can also play the object of the Minangkabau conventional musical instrument. © 2023 American Institute of Physics Inc..
