Abstract

Students' problem-solving ability is a crucial issues found in the school, the arrangement of mathematics learning tools that are still not under the characteristics of students. For this reason, research on the development on learning instruction has been designed. This study aims to describe the characteristics of based learning instruction Contextual Approach to improve the mathematical problem-solving ability of students of class VIII semester I SMP/MTs that are valid, practical, and effective. The developed learning instructions are lesson plans and student worksheets. This research used plomp's model which consists of three stages, namely preliminary phase, prototyping phase, and assessment phase. At the development stage, the learning instructions are carried out through the stages of formative evaluation. The design implemented on class VIII students of SMPN 4 Payakumbuh in the 2021/2022 academic year. The instruments were lesson plans, validation sheets, students' worksheet validation sheets, teacher questionnaires, student questionnaires, observation sheets, and tests. Before the instrument is used, it validated by the validator. © 2023 Author(s).
