The biosorption of Cr(VI) has been studied using Ambarella Fruit Peel (Spondias dulcis) with a low-cost biosorbent analyzing the effect of pH and contact time in the biosorption process. Cr(VI) is a heavy metal that has toxic and carcinogenic properties which can pollute the environment and endanger living things. The pH and contact time are very influential in determining the absorption capacity of this metal ion, therefore the effect of pH and contact time are studied. The pectin contained in an Ambarella Fruit Peel was characterized by FTIR and the methoxyl level tested was determined. The result shows that the optimum condition at pH 2 with capacity absorption is 4.885 mg/g and a contact time of 120 minutes with absorption capacity is 4.505 mg/g. The pectin has a low-methoxyl level in the amount of 1,11%. This shows that Ambarella Fruit Peel can absorb Cr(VI) ion effectively. © 2023 Author(s).
