Abstract

The purpose of this study is to learn how the implementation of the strategy of working backwards among male and female of senior high school student in solving mathematical problems. The research method used is survey research. Two respondents are male and female who were given two Senior High School math questions consisting of algebra question and story question. Each respondent was given two treatments, namely 1) Allowing them work with their respective strategies 2) providing guidance on using a working backwards strategy. Both of questions are made in such a way, therefore many strategies can be applied in answering. The results obtained are 1) both of respondents tend to work with other strategies, while when it is given scaffolding by directing to a backward working strategy 2) two respondents tend to be quick to understand and quickly find a solution. The aforementioned evidence above reveals that with the strategy of working backwards, the process of solving senior high school math problems is more effective because it does not take a long time and the calculation steps are few. This strategy can be easily and quickly understood by them. © 2023 Author(s).
