In the 21st century, it is not enough to be a proficient reader. Students need to read a variety of purposes and texts and master good reading literacy skills to compete in the real world. PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) has become an effective assessment tool in many regions and countries worldwide to assess this skill. This study investigates the students' needs of the PISA-based reading literacy assessment model at grade x Senior High School in Padang. This study was quantitative research. The respondents of this study were 64 tenth-grade students in SMAN 1 Padang and SMAN 10 Padang. In collecting data, the researcher used a questionnaire. The result showed that the students mostly needed multiple choice for the response formats in the reading literacy assessment with a 2.88 score. Then, an announcement has the highest category for text types with a 2.67 score. In addition, the highest score for aspects of reading literacy competence belongs to represent literal meaning with 2.63. For the two last indicators, the students mostly need multiple texts for text formats and highly need occupational as the text context.
