Abstract

BACKGROUND: Pregnancy causes discomfort due to physical and psychological changes. Pregnancy exercise during pregnancy can help prepare pregnant women for childbirth. This study examines the effectiveness of pregnancy exercise in improving the physical and mental readiness of pregnant women before childbirth in pregnant women at the Sungai Rumbai Health Center, Dharmasraya Regency. METHODS: This qualitative descriptive study used a purposive sampling technique for 20 pregnant women as subjects. Data collection by interviewing pregnant women with 10 questions related to the effectiveness of pregnancy exercise. Data were processed by data triangulation. RESULTS: The results of the study showed that pregnancy exercise is effective in improving the physical and psycholog-ical readiness of pregnant women, including strengthening and maintaining the elasticity of the pelvic muscles, increas-ing the physical endurance of pregnant women before childbirth, reducing pre-natal anxiety, pre-natal breathing exercises and making pregnant women more relaxed. Pregnancy exercise provides many benefits for pregnant women and during the labor process. By doing pregnancy exercise routinely 3 times a week, pregnant women can reduce anxiety and stress during pregnancy or childbirth. Anxiety and stress experienced by pregnant women come from miscarriage experiences, first pregnancies, lack of pregnancy information, and lack of support from those closest to them. CONCLUSIONS: Doing prenatal exercises regularly will reduce pelvic pain, anxiety, and stress in pregnant women. © 2025 EDIZIONI MINERVA MEDICA.
