This study aims to describe the effect of using the Numbered Head Together (NHT) Cooperative learning model and Reading Habits on the Skills of Writing Short Story Texts in Class XI SMA Negeri 6 Padang. First, the NHT of cooperative learning model.. Second, the skill of writing short story texts. Third, reading habits and short story text writing skills scores in the two sample classes. Data was collected through a questionnaire link reading habits and a short story text writing skill test. The results of this study are as follows. First, the value of students' short story text writing skills using the NHT type cooperative learning model is higher than the students short story text writing skills using the conventional model because t-count > t-table (1.95>1.65). Second, the value of short story text writing skills of students who have high reading habits using the NHT type cooperative learning model is higher than the value of short story text writing skills of students who have high reading habits using conventional methods t-count > t-table (2.61>1.76). Third, the value of the short story text writing skills of student who have low reading habits using the NHT type cooperative learning model is higher than the value of short story text writing skills of students who have low reading habits using conventional methods because t-count > t-table (3.39>1.76). Fourth, there is no interaction between the NHT type of cooperative learning model and reading habits in influencing students' short story writing skills because t- count < t-table (0.74>4.19). The NHT cooperative learning model is effective because it can improve student learning outcomes. In addition, the NHT type of cooperative learning model can be applied to students who have high reading habits and can also be used to students who have low habits. © 2023 American Institute of Physics Inc..
