Abstract

The mathematical word problem is an interesting topic in every country and level of learning. Therefore, this research aimed to promote the thinking of students in solving mathematical word problems using Scaffolding and GeoGebra. Analytical descriptive method was used and the data were collected by giving a mathematical word problem test. Based on Newman Error Analysis, students were grouped into three categories, namely low, medium, and high levels using error percentage. In addition, two students from each category were selected for in-depth interviews and treatment. The results showed that scaffolding and GeoGebra were required in solving mathematical word problems to promote the thinking of students. © 2026 Author(s).
