Abstract

Tin electroplating was widely used as coating in the electronics industry due to their good properties and low cost, so it might be a new way to save costs in production and boost product performance. There were commonly used methods of applying Tin coating, one of them is electroplating. Tin electroplating is the process of depositing Tin to the surface of a material via an electrical current in an electrolyte solution. This is widely used method as coating in the electronics industry due to their good properties and low cost, so it might be new ways to save costs in production and boost product performance. Since the coating material have different deposition mechanisms, it is needs to be investigated for the revelation of relevant application. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of tin electroplating current density on the layers thickness formed on the specific area of steel surface in zinc chloride solution. The tin layer was plated on the steel using a fixed current voltage of 6000 mV and varied for current density 500, 1000 and 1500 mA.mm-2 and plating times 240, 360 and 480 sec. The result showed the electroplating current density influential electro deposition tin on steel plate substrate. It is related to the change of layer thickness formed on the surface of the substrate, where the larger the current density will increase the thickness of the layer formed. However, the longer plating time and increased volume of solutions is not directly proportional to the growth of the layer formed. © 2023 Author(s).
