Abstract

A design of broadband axial ratio ellipse microstrip antenna with slotted parasitic is presented in this paper. The antenna structure is made up of two layers of substrate, an ellipse radiating shape, and an ellipse slotted parasitic patch. Circular polarization is generated by rotating the ellipse 45 degrees relative to the y axis. In this proposed antenna, a single proximity feed has been adopted. The finite element method (FEM) was operated to optimize the design and achieve good circular polarization at the center frequency of 5.3 GHz. The proposed antenna dimension was optimized with a relative dielectric constant of 2.17, a loss tangent of 0.0005, and a substrate thickness of 1.6 mm. The simulated impedance bandwidth and axial ratio bandwidth are 610 MHz and 475 MHz, respectively. Based on the simulated results, the design of proposed antenna can be implemented for the CP-SAR sensor. © 2022 IEEE.
