This survey of the literature examines the idea of ethnomathematics in the nine provinces of Indonesia's Sumatera Island, emphasizing the interaction between mathematical ideas and cultural customs. By showing how mathematical concepts are ingrained in everyday life, crafts, architecture, and customs, ethnomathematics focuses on the interaction between mathematics and culture. Sumatera's ancient weaving patterns, Indigenous counting systems, and architectural designs all of which have unique cultural values and social significance are examples of the study's many uses of mathematics. This study sheds light on the distinctive mathematical frameworks and approaches to problem-solving that are exclusive to the Sumatera communities by combining information from scholarly publications, field research, and regional reports. In addition to celebrating and conserving Sumatera's rich cultural legacy, this study makes recommendations on how these traditional mathematical methods may be incorporated into formal education to create a more inclusive and culturally sensitive curriculum.
