Abstract

One of the ways to improve the efficiency of Wind Turbine Generator system (WTGs) is by control the output power to the maximum point at any wind speed variation. The maximum power of WTGs can be obtained by several methods, one of which is the optimum torque method. In this paper, a maximum power control of stand alone WTGs based on optimum torque control is proposed using dc-dc boost converter. In this method, the generator power is regulated at maximum point by controlling the electromagnetic torque at the optimum point. The electromagnetic torque is controlled by regulating the generator current through the boost converter. WTGs are designed to supply a single phase load through boost inverter. Battery energy storage system (BESS) is added to regulate the dc bus voltage, so that voltage fluctuations due to wind speed variations can be avoided. Simulation results show that the proposed system provides good response. The output power of the generator can reach the maximum point on any wind speed variation. © 2018 IEEE.
