This study aims to integrate Minangkabau culture (Rendang) into the teaching materials of Indonesian for Foreign Speakers (BIPA). Employing a qualitative research method with a literature review approach, this study reveals that Rendang, an iconic Minangkabau culinary dish, holds significant potential as a locally-based BIPA teaching material. Rendang is more than a dish, it reflects the Minangkabau people's cultural values, transmitted from one generation to the next. By following a learning process in which students explore the symbolic meanings of Rendang, BIPA learners are provided with an opportunity to learn about the Minangkabau people’s philosophy of life, comprising fundamental values such as consensus, deliberation, patience, and diligence. Thus, the inclusion of Rendang in BIPA learning systems not only adds to the learner's language skills but also to their general knowledge of Minangkabau culture. This research is anticipated to contribute to the development of more contextually relevant and culturally attuned BIPA teaching materials, thereby fostering foreign learners' interest in studying the Indonesian language and culture. © 2025 Ermanto, Triwira Dhika JR, Saddhono, Susanto, and Ardi.
