Global citizenship education (GCE) in Indonesia is committed not only to shaping globally aware, inclusive and egalitarian citizens but also to fostering a strong national identity. GCE in Indonesia presents a synergy of national identity values and global diversity through the learning process. This study aims to analyse the planning and implementation of GCE that integrates global diversity with the values of strengthening national identity. The research is designed with qualitative approach. Data was collected in three phases: first, by qualitative content analysis of lesson plans; second, by observing teaching videos; and third, through interviews with teachers. Data analysis was conducted through display data, data reduction and interpretation. The research findings indicate that both the planning and practice of teaching reflect the integration of global diversity with national identity values. Most teachers believe that instilling national identity values in students is the foundation for building global competence. This study is focusing on the distribution of the integration of global diversity values with identity values in teaching planning and implementation. There is an open possibility to explore the same object from other perspectives, such as curriculum, experiences and teacher beliefs. © 2025 Intellect Ltd.
